Àlvar Mestres

Contemporary Sculptor & Ceramic Artist · Barcelona

After studying Graphic Design, I trained in Sculpture at Escola Llotja in Barcelona — the historic art school where Picasso and Miró once studied. The dialogue between sculpture and design continues to shape my work today.

I create sculptural ceramics inspired by landscape, erosion, architecture and the passage of time. Working entirely by hand, without molds or the potter’s wheel, I allow subtle variations and imperfections to become part of each piece.

Many works remain unglazed, revealing the natural beauty, texture and honesty of fired clay.

Through my work, I seek to create moments of stillness — objects that bring a quiet presence to the spaces they inhabit.

I build slowly, by hand.

Imperfection, texture, and calm — for spaces that breathe.
