Àlvar Martínez Mestres
I trained as a sculptor after studying graphic design at the Escola d’Arts Aplicades i Oficis Artístics Llotja — the same institution where Picasso and Miró once studied. The dialogue between sculpture and design continues to shape my work today.
My sculptures are defined by minimalist, austere forms and a deep respect for material honesty. Many pieces remain unglazed, allowing the natural fired clay to be seen and touched — to speak through texture rather than surface decoration.
Each work is entirely hand-built, without molds. No two pieces are ever identical. Time, gesture, and subtle irregularities become part of the form itself.
I build slowly, by hand.
Imperfection, texture, and calm — for spaces that breathe.
